Rescuing Pekingese in Need for Over 20 Years
Foster a Peke: Can You Help Us?
The main reason PVPC is able to rescue the Pekingese we
take into our system each year is because we have people who are willing
to foster these dogs until a permanent home can be found.
Unfortunately, over the last several months, there has been an influx of abandoned, neglected, and stray Pekingese in dire need of assistance. We have received numerous calls from people who want to/have to give up their Pekingese and from shelters who are desperately trying to find another temporary arrangement for the pekes who have been turned into their facilities and who otherwise, because of overcrowding, face certain death.
Our foster volunteers have jobs, families, and dogs of their own. Yet, they never think twice, when there is a Pekingese in need, to spring into action and help. Even though these volunteers already have pets of their own, they manage to set up a system and make things work between their own pets and their temporary guests.
Unfortunately, as much as we would like to help these people and their dogs, we can't because we have nowhere to house them as all of our current foster homes are full. Denying these dogs our help and being forced to turn them away is the most difficult and painful aspect of rescue.
Plainly put, WE NEED YOUR HELP.
If you live in our core area (Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia) and are willing to foster a Pekingese even on a one time basis, you can literally be instrumental in making a difference between a dog living and a dog being put down. Every peke we are able to foster, translates into a life saved.
When you foster a dog for our club, you are never more than a phone call or email away from several of our rescue volunteers, should you need anything. The club covers all of the foster dog's medical expenses. PVPC is very lucky to have in our midst members with incredible knowledge and experience about the Pekingese breed (health, behavior, temperament, etc.) Everyone is always willing to help and the lines of communication are always open.
We realize that for various reasons, some people are not in position to foster a dog, but if you feel that you can, we want to hear from you.
Also, if you know of anyone who is interested in fostering for the club, please give them our website address, where applications to foster can be found, and our P.O. Box address to which the form can be sent.
We hope that you can answer our plea and make some room in your home and your heart for a little canine guest so that he/she might have a second chance at finding a forever home.
